Oakmont Learners are intellectually curious, interested in discovering new facts, sharing ideas, and building a social connection with other like-minded individuals! No grades, no tests! Learning for the joy of it!

The Oakmont Lifelong Learning Committee coordinates with Sonoma State University/Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (SSU/OLLI) to provide stimulating and intriguing courses offered by distinguished faculty and other experts. During the fall, winter and spring, nine 6-week courses are offered in Oakmont. During the summer, two-hours lectures are offered and occasional special events like concerts. The Summer 2017 is below:

EARLY CALIFORNIA ART AND HISTORY: 1848 – 1950

Linda Reid

Exploring early California through tumultuous times, art historian, Linda Reid explores the diverse personalities that made San Francisco the State’s hub of cultural endeavors through the Gold Rush, the 1906 Earthquake and the Depression.

 

RECONSTRUCTION 7 RECOVERY: THE POST-CIVIL WAR SOUTH

Wednesdays, January 11 – February 15, 3:00 – 5:00 PM, Berger Center

Instructor Mick Chantler brings to life the moral, political and personal struggles of post-war Southeners who facing unexpected and bitter defeat, must now rebuild their heritage in a time turned upside down by total devastation and Lincoln’s death.

 

GOLDILOCKS PLANET: EARTH’S CLIMATE HISTORY

Thursdays, January 12 – February 16. 3:00 – 5:00PM, East Rec Center

Join Instructor Warren Wiscombe for a 4.5 billion year tour of Earth whose Goldilock’s ‘just right’ for life climate has also known super-volcano eruptions, mass extinctions and great Snowball Events.
