Novice Singles: There was a great turnout this year. Out of our cur-rent 22 novices, 12 signed up and played! And enjoyed themselves. All members should take note: When a tournament is announced, mark your calendar, sign up and play. You’ll have fun and get good experience in competitive play.
The tourney started September 19. After the first rounds, the field was reduced to four players, the semi-finalists: Sherry Kohut vs Pam Dempsey and Denise Lenahan vs. Bonnie Johnston. On September 21st, Bonnie and Pam won the semis and immediately played the final match. Bonnie played very well and won the tournament going away.
It is worth noting, that all the semi-finalists were women. Perhaps this was because only three men, brave men, entered the tournament; good for them.
Frank Gyorgy breathed a big sigh of relief. It was the last intra-club tourney for which he was responsible.
September 20th Big Response! About 20 Oakmonters visited the green and were greeted by as many lawn bowlers to give them an introduc-tion to the game. Lots of treats too. Many of the prospective bowlers showed promise and asked to trained. If this turnout is as successful as the last one we can expect to see a lot of new faces on the green.
