Well, that went well!

The Oakmont Tennis Club held its Winter Social on a chilly January 10th night inside a warm Oak Saddle Club, and, I’m going to make up a new saying here, “Fun was had by all.”

The food served up by the Saddle Club staff to the 59 attendees was delicious; the music of the Second St. Band was just right and the dancing was spirited to say the least. Seems that a lot of good moves worked on over years on a tennis court pays off on the dance floor.

Besides providing a joyous night of music and food, the tennis club also took time to honor some of the folks who have done outstanding work over the years.

Here are the honorees in no particular order, well maybe in ascending (height) order.

MELANIE GOTT — Melanie served as the membership chairman and was the one pumping out Email Blasts, among other duties, to the membership. She is moving to Healdsburg but promises to drop back to Oakmont for tennis and friendship. She is being replaced by Rex Fuller. She was presented a gift certificate by club President John Hughson.

PETER HOGAN — Peter is the Administrator of the Tuesday and Thursday games on the East Courts. It is he who gets up with the sun to check the courts on iffy rainy days and keeps his email readers informed. He also does not hesitate to manually get the courts in shape if needed. To join Peter’s email list, contact him at pwhogan@sb.global.net. Presentation of wine was made by Arnie Herskovic.

TONY AGOCS — Tony is known, respected and admired for his Thursday afternoon clinics on the West Courts for anyone who wants to improve their games or even learn how to play tennis. This is in addition to the top-level tennis that Tony plays. Presentation of wine was made by Ululani McBride.

BRIAN WILLIAMS — Brian was not present, but he was acknowledged for his long-time work running the Sunday games on the West Courts and for the humorous emails he sent out to get the games organized. He is being replaced by Neil Linneball, So if you want to play on Sunday, get in touch with Neil at
neilscience@gmail.com. Vice-President Frank Passaglie accepted in Brian’s absence.

I’m sure I’m not going overboard in thanking all the board members — especially Maureen Pennal and Judy and Frank Passaglia — for putting on the Winter Social.

So now the club can turn its attention to the Sweetheart tournament on February 14, details of which will be coming your way in Email Blasts from Rex and the next edition of the Oakmont News.
