Action offstage at Playreaders

Heard about Oakmont Playreaders? The longest-running of Oakmont’s clubs and perhaps the most fun of all is Playreaders. But it may not be what you imagined. Playreaders, apart from, say, a book club is the excitement of performance art played out for a faithful audience every week at the Central Activities Center.

It starts when one of the Playreaders selects a play (usually, a modern comedy) and the members who will perform it. They get at least two weeks to read the script and develop their character interpretations before performance. And while we don’t move about during the reading, the actors bring the characters to life. If being a reader isn’t of interest, the audiences who regularly watch can vouch for the good time had by all. The Club’s repertoire is full of award-winning plays. Consider this your invitation to join us Mondays at 2pm in Room B of the CAC. We’ll try to make it the best hour of your day.
