TOURNAMENT NEWS

Winning teams in the Independence Day Tourney played on July 6 will be pictured in the August 1 Oakmont News.

Next up is the Let the Good Times Roll Tourney on Saturday, August 3 at 9:30 AM. Tournaments are limited to the first 24 participants to secure a tag, so be sure to get to the courts at least 15 minutes early to reserve a place for the chip draw.

COMING EVENTS

Mark your calendars: The annual Bocce Club Picnic will be held on Saturday, July 20 with play at 9:30 followed by the picnic at the West Rec. picnic area at noon.

There will be no Club play on Wednesday, July 24 and Friday, July 26 since Club members will be volunteer bocce instructors and scorers for the annual Grandparents’ Club Kids Week activities beginning at 10 AM each day.

CLUB PLAY

All three West Rec. Center bocce courts are reserved for club play Monday through Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. and continuing until all games are completed. Players are reminded to arrive early for the teams and court chip draw and also to return all umbrellas to their “down” position, restore scoring pegs to their pre-game position, and lock the shed securely after play.

The Oakmont “Straight Shooters” (Barbara Lowell, Jean Reed, Ann Miller & Malcolm Wing) also represented the Oakmont Bocce Club in the 2019 Sonoma Wine Country Games competition.

New players and prospective players interested in learning about the game are always welcome during daily play. No personal equipment or prior knowledge or experience are required and you’ll be on the court right away — we’ll be happy to show you the fundamentals and introduce you to the fun of bocce.

The Oakmont “Go Getters” (Geoffrey Newton, Barbara Newton, Linda McPherson & Don McPherson) reached the semi-finals and finished fourth overall in the annual Sonoma Wine Country Games in June. Another Oakmont team, “3 Guys and a Gal” (Cindi Clemence, Jeff Clemence, Fritz Spotleson & Jim Tosio, pictured in an earlier edition), finished second over-all.
