Decisions Near On Fate Of The Sonoma Development Center

The decisions the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors will soon make regarding the Sonoma Developmental Center (SDC) will have lasting impact on the Valley of the Moon and Oakmont Village. Next month Supervisors will consider three development proposals made by an outside consultant. All three proposals include high-density housing and a hotel.

Your Oakmont Board of Directors, and its Community Development Committee have serious concerns about the impact on Oakmont should the Supervisors adopt any of the three proposals at this time. All of them would have significant impacts on traffic, wildfire risks, emergency evacuations, water and other natural resources.

Please go to https://eldridgeforall.org/home, to learn more about the situation and attend via Zoom the December 15th 5:30 p.m. meeting of the North Sonoma Valley Municipal Advisory Council (Zoom link https://sonomacounty.ca.gov/North-Sonoma-Valley-Municipal-Advisory-Council/Calendar/North-Valley-MAC-Meeting-December-15-2021/. The State has imposed a January 2022 deadline for the County to decide how to develop the SDC, and the Supervisors will meet on January 25th at 8:30 a.m. to do so.

Even though the comment period is closed, the County website is still taking comments online at https://www.sdcspecificplan.com/contact. Also, send your comments directly to the Supervisors at bos@sonoma-county.org, and calendar the 8:30 a.m. January 25th meeting of the County Supervisors. We will keep you posted on developments, and if you have time to work with the Oakmont Community Development Committee on this issue, please contact Hugh Helm at 707-573-8700 or hhelm@sonic.net.
