Topic/Speaker: Dogwoods ~ Variety, Form and Beauty, presented by Jenny Watts

Members of the dogwood family are some of the best ornamental shrubs and small trees available. These plants are beautiful in every season but are most conspicuous when in flower. This presentation offers an exploration of the large and diverse family of trees and shrubs commonly called Dogwoods. It covers many of the familiar varieties of Eastern Dogwood as well and the not-so-well-known Pacific Dogwoods, Japanese Dogwoods, the shrubby Red-twig Dogwoods and even a groundcover variety. Come enjoy this visual journey through the world of beautiful Dogwoods.

Jenny Watts spent her career as a Nurserywoman. She opened her first nursery in San Jose in 1975, and after 7 years there, moved to Willits where she started her second nursery with her husband, Dave. They named it Sanhedrin Nursery after the mountain that overlooks the Willits Valley. She is a California Certified Nurserywoman with 42 years in the business. In Willits, she developed a bedding plant business where they grew all types of vegetable and flower starts for their local customers. She also wrote a garden column for the local newspaper for over 30 years, and compiled many of her articles into a small book, A Year in the Garden, Gardening in the Willits Area.
She and her husband retired in 2017 and moved to Oakmont in the fall of 2018, to be closer to family. She is now a member of the Oakmont Landscape Committee, which oversees landscaping of OVA property, mainly around the recreation centers.
