Closure of Oakmont’s East Rec Center for major remodeling, expected earlier to start this month, has been delayed until August, OVA announced.
Delays in getting city permits caused the delay, OVA General Manager Kevin Hubred said Friday, June 1.
Groups whose meetings and events had been moved should remain in the East Rec until the project gets a go-ahead, he said.
The work, projected to cost in excess of $1.7 million, has been expected to require closing the building for around six months.
The project includes replacing a rotted balcony overlooking the pool, a new pool deck and pool equipment, upgrading the building and surrounding area to meet access standards and general improvements ranging from adding storage to better audio-visual equipment and fire sprinklers.
