SIR BRANCH 92 will be having its first post-pandemic lunch. To celebrate but staying safe, Oakmont Market will cater a self-serve box lunch with all the trimmings. We will observe all protocols for safety. A drawing for a special prize and our customary drawing for the Birthday Boys will be held for those in attendance. Members are encouraged to bring guests and their significant other.
Our speaker’s topic “Inside Labor Unions – Elections, Crimes and Misdemeanors”
Doug Griffin will talk about his experience as an Investigator and District Director for the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) in administering the laws that govern the internal operations of American labor unions. His talk will include a discussion of crimes inside unions, rules for internal election of union officers with examples of violations of those rules resulting in Federal intervention, and a summary of the history behind Federal Regulations of Unions. (Does anybody remember Bobby Kennedy saying to Jimmy Hoffa “Mista Hoffa, isn’t it true that you ……?)
Doug is a CPA/Forensic Accountant. He spent over 30 years doing and managing investigations for the Federal Government. Doug grew up in the Detroit area where unions were a big part of everyday life. He has a BA and MA from the University of Michigan, was a Lt. in the Marine Corps and actually started his career as a teacher and football coach. Doug’s investigative career included stops in Chicago, Atlanta, Denver and San Francisco. Doug and his wife, Mary, live part of the year in Oakmont and part in Colorado. He enjoys playing golf with his SIRs friends.
