2020 Fire near Bear Mountain

Fire Weather Watch and a Red Flag Warning are two alerts issued by the National Weather Service at the onset, or potential onset, of critical weather. A weather watch is issued for a 12 to 72-hour period when there is potential for high winds. A warning is issued for weather events that could result in extreme fire behavior in the next 24 hours. A warning is THE time to think about a possible fire and need for evacuation. Notify your neighbors, particularly those who may not be aware of this alert and/or who may need help getting prepared. Have Go-bags (yours and your pets) ready, important documents collected and keep connected with local radio stations, Nixle or SoCoAlert to learn the latest information. Oakmont now has signs that will be posted on Red Flag Warning days.

Before we enter into the summer heat and increased fire potential, take some time to look at the great Tips available on the Map Your Neighborhood website ( If you are not already in a MYN group the MYN team would be glad to help you get started ( We are hosting monthly Q and A sessions about MYN the fourth Thursday on the month at 11 AM in Suite C of the OVA office building.

Be Oakmont Prepared.
