Next meeting – Thursday, March 14, 2019
5:30-7:00 PM in Room B in the CAC.
It’s Time to Expand Your Capability to Use Technology to Age in Place
Our next meeting will continue our discussion on what Oakmont residents might consider doing to take advantage of the wealth of emerging technology that will help us “Age in Place”.
Before the regular meeting, we’ll have a short seminar at 5 to introduce the current state of Artificial Intelligence. Join us for that seminar or at 5:30 for the “Aging in Place” discussion.
OUR Future is NOW
To stay current with technology, now is the time to get started. Each of us needs a smartphone (iPhone or Android) and the Wifi system to support it. We need to stretch ourselves to understand and use the capabilities of these smartphones.
“Aging in Place”
Here are some capabilities you might try on your phone – right now!
Your phone has an Emergency Contact and Notification function
You can control your home security system – or install a security camera and sensors
You can set your clock to remind you to take medications
You can keep important information about your health (medications, allergies, etc.)
You can access your personal health record through a medical portal
You can set up your phone to help with vision, hearing, or mobility limitations
Your phone can be a magnifier
Your phone has a flashlight
You can send and receive messages and photos from family and friends (grandchildren!)
You can read a book on your phone
If any of these seem particularly hard to do, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org!
