There is NO meeting of the Genealogy Club in July.
The next meeting will be on Monday, August 26 in the West Rec Center at 1:00.
Our June 24th meeting was led by club member Elihu Smith who gave us a history lesson covering the 18th and 19th centuries, with maps showing the boundary and political changes in the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth, which includes the present-day countries in Eastern Europe. We had a large turnout and many questions on how these historical changes affected the later Jewish migration from those areas to the Americas. Thanks to Elihu for a very informative presentation and to Peter Kiep for the challa bread and honey he provided for the group.
Elihu is planning to do a second presentation this Fall. He’ll do a quick review of the first presentation and then cover the subject of “What life was like for our Jewish ancestors in Russia”.
The Oakmont Genealogy Club regularly meets upstairs in the West Rec Center on the 4th Monday of each month (except July & December) at 1:00 PM. There are no club dues, and everyone is welcome to attend our meetings, both newbies and experienced researchers.
