OH, WHAT A WEEK IT WAS!
This year’s Grandparents’ Week went beautifully, with 70 Oakmont families participating, along with their 119 grandchildren. Ages ranged from 18 months to 17 years in classes such as Story Time, Science Fun, and Parachutes & Music for the little ones to Sewing, Making Pasta, Zentangle, Robotics, Card Making, and Beads for the older children. And, of course, there were all kinds of sports, hosted by generous Oakmont club members who gave of their time to instruct budding new athletes: Shuffleboard (new this year); Tennis; Wii Bowling; Bocce; Pickleball; Table Tennis. There were family events, such as the Welcome Party/Carnival at Oakmont Gardens, Bingo, and Family Fun Pizza Night. Finally, all ages cooled off by diving for coins in the Central Pool to culminate the week’s activities! Grandparents and great-grandparents observed and participated, taking special delight at the smiles on the faces of their loved ones.
Special thanks to all the volunteers and teachers who worked hard to make the week a success. We couldn’t do it without you! And a huge kudos to all our sponsors: Oakmont Community Foundation, Valley of the Moon Rotary, Oakmont Kiwanis, McBride Realty, Mary’s Pizza Shack, Summerfield Theaters, UMPQUA Bank, the Oakmont Ukesters, and several local markets and retail stores.
