SUNDAY, JULY 24 

Welcome Carnival at Berger Plaza: 3:00–5:00 PM. All ages.  

Carnival Games, Basketball Hoop, Prizes, Sno Cones, Popcorn, Cotton Candy, Balloon Animals, Face Painter.  Entertainment by the Oakmont Ukesters. Fun for the whole family!  To avoid long lines, your family will be assigned a time frame for face painting and balloon animals. Fill out a request on Registration Form. 

MONDAY, JULY 25 

~~EVERY DAY, ALL DAY, Monday through Friday, Games with Grandparents in Berger Room G.~~  

All ages.  Board games provided or bring your own.  No registration or fee required … just show up! 

3-Day Golf Clinic (M, Tu, W) with Pros Chapman Dundas & Khiana Schmuhl at Valley of the Moon Golf Course: 

9:00 to 11:00 AM each day. Ages 6 to 14+. Maximum 30 children.  

Offered by VOM Golf Course – cost $100 per child, payable to VOMGC. 

All instruction & equipment included, along with VOM hats, certificates of completion, name tags, Gatorade  

& water. Bring own clubs, if possible. Instruction will be at the back practice range of the Valley of the Moon Course (7025 Oakmont Drive). Call VOMGC for questions: 707-539-0415. 

Introduction to Tennis at West Rec Courts: 9:00–10:00 AM. Ages 8 and up. Maximum 16 children.  

This is a fun class for beginners. Learn basic skills. Bring own racket, if possible. Must wear non-marking-soled shoes. 

Pickleball at East Rec Courts – two sessions: 9-9:45 & 10-10:45. Ages 8 and up. Maximum 12 children per session.  

All equipment provided. Pickleball is played with a paddle and a plastic whiffle ball on a half-sized tennis court.  

Must wear non-marking-soled shoes. (Also offered on Friday) 

*Toddler Time in Suite C: 9:30-10:15 AM. Ages 2 to 4. Maximum 8 children. 

Join a small playgroup for a different activity each day.  We will be playing with playdoh, reading stories, 

coloring, and playing in water. Activities will vary.  (Offered M, Tu, Th, F at varying times.) 

*Christmas in July in Berger Room D: 11:00 AM-Noon. Ages 6-9. Maximum 10 children.   

Decorate a Santa Ornament & Christmas Tags with glue and imagination. 

Robotics in Berger Center: 1:00-2:15 PM. Ages 6 to 14. Maximum 40 children. 

Participants will work in teams with Tinkertoys and use their imaginations on a particular theme. 

This is always a fun, creative class. All materials provided.  

TUESDAY, JULY 26 

Golf Clinic 9 to 11 – Day 2 

~~EVERY DAY, ALL DAY, Monday through Friday, Games with Grandparents in Berger Room G.~~  

All ages.  Board games provided or bring your own.  No registration or fee required … just show up! 

Pétanque – between OVA office & shuffleboard courts: 9:00-10:00 AM. Ages 8 and up. Maximum 8 children. 

Pétanque (pay-tonk) is a French game similar to Italian Bocce and British Lawn Bowling. Club volunteers will work directly with the grandchildren to practice technique and learn the rules, along with scoring and strategy. Placing the jack, pointing, and shooting will be demonstrated. Club volunteers will then supervise the grandchildren playing a game of Pétanque. Wear closed-toed shoes. 

2-Day Tennis Clinic at West Rec Courts, Tuesday & Wednesday: 10:00–11:30 AM. Ages 8 and up.  Maximum 12 children. 

This is for children who have some tennis experience. Instructors will work with players for two sessions to improve their skills and have fun playing with others. Bring own racket, if possible. Must wear non-marking-soled shoes. 

Wii Bowling in East Rec Center – two sessions: 9:30-10:30 & 11-Noon. Ages 5 and up. Maximum 24 children per session.  

Nintendo Wii simulates the experience of bowling without the weight of a bowling ball. It’s lots of fun for all!  

If there is extra space and time, grandparents will be encouraged to play, too. All equipment provided. 

*Toddler Time in Suite C: 9:30-10:15 AM. Ages 2 to 4. Maximum 8 children. 

Join a small playgroup for a different activity each day.  We will be playing with playdoh, reading stories, 

coloring, and playing in water. Activities will vary.  (Offered M, Tu, Th, F at varying times.) 

Discover What Lives In and Around the Oakmont Pond – two sessions: 9-10:15 & 11-12:15. Ages 7 to 12.  

Maximum 8 children. Come for an experience in nature, walking, observing, and listening to what we see, smell, hear, and touch.  Notice all the different shapes of leaves, different types of bark; learn about the soap plant, sedge, dragonflies, and much more.  Pick up a leaf, stone, branch, bark, flower, or whatever you find. Create a piece of art from your collection. We will walk around the pond and then up a nearby trail to collect items and add to your knowledge about nature and indigenous people. All materials provided. Children need to wear appropriate walking shoes and clothes that might get dirty or slightly wet. Grandparents, wear walking shoes. Meet at top of East Rec parking lot.  

Paper Plania Mania on the Greensward: 1:00-1:45 PM. Ages 6 to 9. Maximum 6 children. 

Taught by Oakmont grandchild Henry Leveque (age 10), learn how to make some of Henry’s favorite paper airplanes and take them out for a test flight. FREE! 

Painting Party with Acrylics at West Rec Picnic Tables: 1:00-2:30 PM. Ages 7 to 10. Maximum 15 to 20 children.  

Using acrylic paints on individual canvases, children will do a teacher-guided painting. There will be a completed painting to take home to impress your friends and family! Instructor Monika is a high school art teacher.  

Grandparents may also paint – see that signup sheet on the Registration Form.  

(Also offered on Wednesday for ages 10 to 14)  

Ride the Bus with Us: 1:45-2:30 PM. Ages 2 to 5. Maximum 6 children. (Also offered on Thursday) 

Little ones and their grandparents (one per child, please) will take a ride around Oakmont via the official Oakmont Bus! They’ll sing songs as they look at the sights. After the bus ride, they will return to the Berger patio for an art project. Meet promptly on Berger patio at 1:45 to catch 1:55 bus.  

Family Picnic Party at Berger Plaza: 5:00–7:00 PM. For the whole family! Bounce Houses, Cookies, Outdoor Games,  

Free Books, Mello-Tones’ Music & Dancing. Bring your own picnic & drinks or pre-order hotdogs or hamburgers with chips from GP Club. (See signup on Registration Form.) Food must be pre-ordered and paid with registration. 

WEDNESDAY, JULY 27

Chopsticks & Skittles in East Rec Center – two sessions: 9-10 & 10:30-11:30. Ages 8 to 11. Maximum 8 children.  

Have your grandchildren had a problem using chopsticks when eating their Asian cuisine? Here’s the solution … manipulating Skittles instead of rice! Children will learn a few Japanese words and phrases, sing a Japanese song,  

and read a book about the Japanese culture. 

Let’s Paint Rocks with Lizzy & Grammy in Suite C: 9:45-10:45 AM. Ages 5 to 8.  Maximum 8 children. 

Create your own design – SpongeBob and ladybugs or whatever your heart desires.  Taught by Oakmont grandparent & granddaughter. Paint smocks, rocks, and paint provided. 

Bocce Ball at West Rec Courts: 10:00–11:15 AM. Ages 6 and up. Maximum 24 children. All equipment provided.  

Come learn the world’s oldest sport – rolling four round balls toward the pallino at the end of the court.  

Closest ball wins! All equipment provided. Must wear closed-toed shoes. Grandparents bring folding chairs.  

(Also offered on Friday)

Parachutes & Music in Berger Center: 10:45-11:30 AM. Ages 3 to 5. Maximum 12 children. All materials provided.  

Enjoy parachute games plus music and movement in a fun, cooperative and non-competitive environment. 

We will be developing teamwork and gross motor skills.  

Table Tennis in Upper West Rec Center – two sessions: 12:45-1:30 & 1:45-2:30. Ages 6 to 14.  

Maximum 16 children per session. Also known as Ping Pong, members of the Table Tennis Club will teach basic skills and help the children have fun with this popular pastime. No experience necessary. All equipment provided. 

Sewing with Ornaments & Buttons in Art Room: 1:00-2:30 PM. Ages 7-13. Maximum 12 children. 

Using sewing machines, children will sew felt Christmas ornaments together and decorate them by learning  

to sew on buttons, a very handy life skill! 

Family Bingo in Berger Center: 3:00 – 4:30 PM. All ages. Cash prizes! Adults attend free! 

THURSDAY, JULY 28 

~~EVERY DAY, ALL DAY, Monday through Friday, Games with Grandparents in Berger Room G.~~  

All ages.  Board games provided or bring your own.  No registration or fee required … just show up! 

Lawn Bowling at Green, left of CAC: 9:30-10:30 AM. Ages 8 and up. Maximum 16 children. 

Similar to Bocce & Pétanque, lawn bowling is, however, played on grass. Bowls are not completely round and are weighted in a way that require them to travel in a curved path. Your ability to judge where your ball will end up is where the challenge of the game comes in. Grandchildren will use a half court. Oakmont lawn bowling members will demonstrate the technique and help the children with their skills. There might even be prizes!  

All equipment provided. 

*Toddler Time in Suite B: 9:45-10:30 AM. Ages 2 to 4. Maximum 8 children.

*Enchanted Fairy Garden at Berman’s home, 375 Riven Rock Court: 10:00-11:00 AM. Ages 5-10. Maximum 15 children. 

“An enchanted world where fairies reign and kindness rules.” All registered participants, accompanied by an adult, must park at the East Rec Center, then follow the posted directional signs until you reach your destination:  

375 Riven Rock Court. You may visit two fairy displays and then make your very own fairy to take home.  

Upon leaving, there is one more path to take, where, if you choose, you may count the fairies you encounter!

It’s Not Only a Box! in Berger Center – two sessions: 9:30-10:30 & 11-Noon. Ages 6 and up. Maximum 12 children.  

Children will hear a story that shows different things that can be made from a simple box.  

Then the children will have free time to make their box into whatever they desire or wherever their imagination  

takes them. Decorated boxes will be taken home. All materials provided. 

*Welcome to Spy School in East Rec Center: 11:00-Noon. Ages 7 to 10. Maximum 12 children. 

The following is a “top secret” message: Do you have what it takes to be a Secret Agent? Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to join us for an adventure filled with top-secret aliases, puzzling codes and ciphers, and dangerous assignments. Will you graduate and become the newest Secret Agent? 

Making Chocolate Dessert Pasta in East Rec Center: 1:15-2:45 PM. Ages 7 to 12. Maximum 20 children. 

Professional chef Marisa will help students make pasta from scratch – this time with chocolate inside the pasta! Children will make the dough, put it through the pasta machine, and plate it to take home to cook with their grandparents. Toppings of raspberries, chocolate, and nuts will be given out at the end of class. All supplies included. 

Ride the Bus with Us: 1:45-2:30 PM. Ages 2 to 5. Maximum 6 children.  (Also offered on Tuesday)

Putting Contest on the Sugarloaf Course Putting Green: 3:00-4:00 PM. Ages 6 and up. 

Valley of the Moon Golf Course staff offers a fun putting contest on the green near the Sugarloaf  Clubhouse.  

There will be prizes and fun activities. Bring own putter, if possible. FREE! 

Golf with Grandparents on Sugarloaf Course: 4:00+ PM – tee times to be determined. 

Using golf carts, children may play a few holes or even 9 with their grandparents. Clubs may be provided, if necessary. Costs: $5 per child, $15 for grandparents, if not a VOM member; $10 for cart rental.  

Make separate checks payable to VOMGC. 

FRIDAY, JULY 29

Come dance with your grandparents … the old-fashioned way, and have a “hootin’ & hollerin’ time”! 

Professional caller and Oakmont resident Carl Ballou will teach various dances with basic instruction  

and backgrounds of each dance. 

Treasures & Treats at Central Pool: Ages potty-trained to 14. Four Sessions, from 1:00 to 3:15 PM.  

Maximum 20 children each session. Coin Tosses & Ice Cream. This is a FREE event.   

(See Registration Form for age groupings, which might change depending on signups.)
