The Great Decisions discussion groups continue to meet the first and third Mondays of each month at 10 AM via Zoom.
On March 1 the topic will be the World Health Organization (WHO). The WHO is poorly understood. It is little funding and virtually no authority. Its operations are primarily on a consensus system (yes, that means 190 countries have to essentially agree before it can do anything).
The discussion will focus on:
- Understanding WHO’s Governance and Mandate
- Evaluating WHO’s response to the COVID pandemic
- Major challenges for WHO
- What changes to WHO would be desirable
And finally, what should the Biden administration be doing with the WHO now.
