Hanging in There

A "circle of friends" relaxing between dance tips

Oakmont Squares are hanging in there, dancing duly masked at the (long-term) temporary space at East Rec Center with its powerful air-filtration system. The lovely deck overlooking the pool, with views of Hood Mountain and Sugar Loaf, provides a space to pull down our masks for a minute, get some fresh air and socialize between dance tips. Social connections can be as important to good health as exercise, and square dancing is an enjoyable way to get both. It works wonders to elevate spirits in these trying times.

Club caller Lawrence Johnstone uses the “red light-green light” system, alternating dances for beginners with dance tips for the more experienced dancers so that everyone gets to dance at a comfortable level. Experienced dancers are invited to join the Oakmont Squares every Tuesday evening from 7:00-9:00 PM. New beginners’ classes begin periodically. Donation is $6 per person. Proof of vaccination is required.

Come dance in a square and make a circle of friends. For information call Jenny at 707-367-2102.
