APRIL 4 LONG HIKE: JENNER HEADLANDS SEA TO SKY TRAIL TO POLE MOUNTAIN

All of this magnificence can be yours, temporarily at least, on a hike (the preserve contains 15 miles of trails). If you’re in tip-top shape and ready for a challenge, head out on the Sea to Sky trail. You’ll want to get an early start, because it’s a steep 7.5-mile climb from the trailhead to the 2,204-foot peak of Pole Mountain, where you’ll feel like the King/Queen of the World as you turn in a complete circle and see nothing but glorious nature in all directions. Rest awhile and enjoy the lunch you brought along, and then it’s a sharp 7.5-mile descent back to your vehicle, toting a feeling of euphoria that will linger for days. Bring plenty of water, hiking poles, and a hearty lunch. Leave Berger Center earlier than normal at 8:00 a.m. Hike leader is Chris Sork, 495-3196

APRIL 4 SHORT HIKE: SANTA ROSA HISTORIC WEST END

This is a mostly flat, paved walking tour on city streets of Santa Rosa’s West End Neighborhood. It will include portions of the Santa Rosa Creek Greenway, the SMART Station at Railroad Square, DeTurk Round Barn and Park and several smaller neighborhoods with lots of character. Optional stop for lunch or coffee along the way. About 3 miles with little to no elevation gain although there are some stairs along the Greenway. Leave Berger Center at 9:00 a.m. Hike leader is Tony Lachowicz 707-888-1430.

Parking Pass if you have one. Leave Berger Center at 9:00 a.m. Hike leader is Zlatica Hasa, phone: 510-331-2165.

A REMINDER TO ALL HIKERS: If the hiking trail is more than 30 miles round trip from Oakmont, it is customary to compensate your driver at least $5.00 for gas.
