JULY 18 INTERMEDIATE HIKE

SUGARLOAF RIDGE STATE PARK

Lower Bald Mountain, Bald Mt., Vista and Meadow Trails with a side trip to the Ceremony Maple Tree. Distance is approximately 5 miles with 950 feet elevation gain. Hike leader: Jason Wilkenfeld, 707-978-2385. Leave Berger parking lot at 9:00 a.m.

JULY 18 LONG HIKE

KORTUM TRAIL: WRIGHT’S BEACH TO GOAT ROCK

An easy 8.5 mile hike, with an elevation gain of about 700 feet, along the bluffs above the ocean, cool sea breezes for hot summer days. We start at Wright’s Beach and walk along a mostly level trail past Shell Beach to the bluffs above Goat Rock and return. Leave Berger at 8:30 a.m. Leader is Martin Johns 330-815-5167

JULY 25 INTERMEDIATE HIKE

JENNER HEADLANDS

Spectacular views of the mouth of the Russian River and Pacific Ocean.

We will hike on the lower part of the Sea to Sky trail on the way up, and the entire length of the Raptor Ridge trail on the way down. Distance is approximately 4 miles through open land and cow pastures.

Elevation gain approximately 880 feet. Free parking, picnic tables, and rest rooms at the trailhead just north of Jenner. Bring lunch, water and sunscreen. Leave the Berger Center at 8:30 a.m. Hike leader is Carl Appellof, 707-291-5278.

JULY 25 LONG HIKE

JACK LONDON FALLEN BRIDGE

This moderate Jack London hike will take us around Fern Lake, and up the Fallen Bridge trails. We will return by way of the Mountain trail. Total distance is 7 miles with elevation gain of around 1,200 feet. Bring water and lunch. Leaving Berger Center at 8:30 a.m. Hike leader is Chuck Chenault, 539-1093.

AUG 1 SHORT HIKE

BOTHE-NAPA STATE PARK

3+ mi, 200’ elevation gain hike along the mostly shady Ritchey Canyon and Redwood trail loop. Leisurely pace, nature stops & stream crossing. Learn colorful park history and its SF connection. Short stop in Calistoga on the way home. State Park pass or day use fee required. Bring water, shade protection, optional poles, snacks, lunch. Depart Berger at 8:30 a.m. for 35 min drive to park. AUGUST 1 LONG HIKE

SUGARLOAF RIDGE

This is an 8.5-mile hike with about a 1000’ of elevation gain. We’ll follow the shade along Sonoma Creek as much as possible, starting with the Meadow Trail and then climbing up to the exposed ridge of Gray Pine/Brushy Peaks, with views of Napa Valley. We return through the shaded switchbacks of lower Brushy Peaks and finish on the Hillside Trail. Start and end in the White Barn parking lot just below the observatory. Bring extra water and a snack and hiking poles. Leave the Berger at 8:30 a.m. Hike leader is Bill Stacy 408-694-7161

A REMINDER TO ALL HIKERS: If the hiking trail is more than 30 miles round trip from Oakmont, it is customary to compensate your driver at least $5.00 for gas
