History of an Observatory

Larry McCune, an officer with the Robert Ferguson Observatory in Sugarloaf Ridge State Park, will summarize the history of the planning, construction and operation of the observatory at the July 24 luncheon of Sons in Retirement Branch #53 at Oakmont’s newly remodeled East Recreation Center.

McCune’s PowerPoint presentation will also describe the collection of telescopes at the observatory, which offers “Sonoma County Astronomy for Everyone”.

Branch #53, which had been meeting at Berger Center during the closure of East Rec for renovations, is back to meeting on the fourth Wednesday of each month at East Rec, 7902 Oakmont Drive. A social hour starts ats 11 a.m. with luncheon at noon catered by A La Heart Catering. Any Oakmont man interested in attending this presentation and/or membership should contact Dave McCuan at 539-3028. Ladies are welcome at 1 p.m. to hear the speaker.

An additional activity offered by Branch #53 is a visit to Open Cockpit Day for Vietnam War Aircraft Aug. 17 at the Pacific Air Museum in Santa Rosa.
