Junk the Junipers – Volunteers Needed
March 16- 22
The Junk the Junipers team needs your help for the 2022 events, with tasks ranging from parking lot monitors to those who have a pickup truck and will travel in Oakmont. Needs include:
- Willing to work a 2–3-hour shift in the Berger parking lot to direct juniper drop offs and monitor materials.
- Pickup truck owners who can help haul cut junipers from residents’ curbside to Berger (for those who cannot make other arrangements).
- Any help for less able Oakmont neighbors in any way to get junipers cleared from properties.
Under the OVA’s Firewise Landscape Policy, junipers must be removed entirely from properties (up to 30 feet) by Sept 1, 2022. During the two weeks of Junk the Junipers, owners can haul cut junipers to the Berger, where they will be chipped and disposed of for free. Only junipers will be accepted at the events.

Oakmont Democratic Club – Meet the Local Candidates
Major decisions will be made in the June primary regarding both the US Congress and local law enforcement. The Feb. 24, 7 p.m. Zoom meeting features sheriff candidate Kevin Burke, district attorney candidate Carla Rodriguez, and Ronen Schatsky, campaign field director for U.S Rep. Josh Harder.
Former Healdsburg Chief of Police, Burke is endorsed by the Democratic Party and is seeking to bring serious reforms to the County Sheriff’s Department, which has been subject to multiple lawsuits in recent years.
Carla Rodriguez, who is running for District Attorney, has been endorsed by both U.S Rep. Mike Thompson and current District Attorney Jill Ravitch. Ms. Rodriguez has served in the District Attorney’s office for over 24 years and has prosecuted cases ranging from homicides and elder abuse to environmental violations.
Congressman Harder, whom Oakmont helped elect in 2018, is facing a fierce fight, as redistricting radically changed his district and has him facing a well-funded Republican.
All Oakmonters are welcome to attend. More information and the zoom link are available at the ODC website: oakmontdemclub.com.
