It’s Time to Sign Up for the 2022 Great Decisions Program

The Great Decisions discussion groups meet nine times during February-June each year to read and discuss topics chosen by the Foreign Policy Association. This is part of a national program to expose Americans to important foreign policy issues and provide a framework for discussion about them. The program is open to all residents of Oakmont and their guests.

Meetings are in East Rec and are at 10 AM Mondays. Two groups meet beginning February 7 and every two weeks thereafter until May 30, the other two groups meet beginning February 14 and every two weeks thereafter until June 6.

As part of the program, each participant receives a book containing important background material for each topic – ($28 cost). The background material allows the groups to have discussions where there’s a basic understanding of the underlying issues.

In order to get a discount on the books we purchase, we need to place an order now. Books are delivered in January and the first discussions begin in February. Your check for $28 can be made out to George McKinney and mailed to 307 Stone Creek Circle, Santa Rosa, 95409. (NOTE: There are large print books available at an additional charge if requested).

During the pandemic, we have been meeting regularly on Zoom. There are two Zoom meetings left, one on November 15 at 10 AM

Topics for 2022 are Changing Demographics; Outer Space; Climate Change; Russia and the U.S.; Myanmar and Asean; The Quad Alliance; Drug Policy in Latin America; Industrial Policy; and Biden’s Agenda.
