Legendary Stories Behind the Legion of Honor: Virginia Ernster, Speaker

This talk tells tall-but-true tales in the history of San Francisco’s Legion of Honor Museum. They include a benefactress who was a force of nature (Alma Spreckels), as well as a prince in Paris, a self-proclaimed emperor, a pioneer of modern dance, San Francisco’s 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, a former cemetery-turned-golf course, and more—not to mention great art!

Until then, Season’s Greetings. See you all in the New Year!

New Pastel Class:

James Reynolds will teach a pastel class in March, 9 and 10, in the Central Activities Center. “Exploring Pastel” is a workshop for beginners to advanced students. Each day will begin with a demonstration in design, color and materials. Students will work individually in class and receive personal instruction.

Focus of instruction will be on color choices based on temperature and value. Other topics will include pastel layering, composition, problem solving, tools and materials, how to work from photographs, etc.

Cost of the workshop is $160 for the two days. Contact Dan Fishman to register at dfishman@pacbell.net.

James is also doing a demonstration painting at the Berger Center on Friday March 8th at 6:30 pm.
