The August 24 monthly MYN meeting featured Sam Wallis from the Sonoma County Department of Emergency Management. His excellent and practical presentation centered on the NOAA radio system for weather-related alerts. Sam brought NOAA radios for each person and then demonstrated how both the system and the radios work. Imagine 28 test alerts going off at the same time! ( fortunately that didn’t happen!). He also had adaptations for people who are hard of hearing and those who wanted a “bed shaker” attachment. If you are interested in obtaining a free NOAA radio you can contact, before October, the Department at 707-565-1369 to get one before the supply runs out.

Our next monthly informational meeting will be Thursday, September 22 from 11 – 12:30 in Room C of the OVA office.

The topic will further the conversation on the various alert systems and apps available for cellular phones, as well as a refresher on the meanings of the emergency notifications. You may also find helpful information (Oakmont Ready Tips) on the MYN website link under Prepare on the OVA web page.
