How many times have you taken a walk and wished there was a bench to rest a moment before continuing your journey? How many times have you seen fellow Oakmont villagers sitting on fire hydrants, irrigations boxes, or utility boxes, because no bench was available?

Oakmont would like to see more benches throughout our community, that would benefit our daily walkers. The OVA Landscape Committee is investigating acquiring wholesale benches that would be functional, attractive, and long lasting in our climate. These benches may go in approved areas of the three OVA recreation centers, and Oakmont owned pathways and trails.

What about your Oakmont club or sports team sponsoring a bench and selecting a location you deep appropriate? We have all walked by, or perhaps sat on, a smartly placed bench in our local neighborhood, park or recreation center and noticed a nameplate or plaque on the bench, designating it as a bench dedicated to a historical event, a local good Samaritan, a supporter, a donor, or a beloved family member. Their legacy lives on because of a funded or donated memorial bench, installed in a perfect place for all to see, take notice, remember, and of course enjoy!

The words of Maya Angelou, “Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us. We need hours of aimless wandering or spates of time sitting on park benches observing the mysterious world of ants and the canopy of treetops.”

Please visit oakmontvillage.com/article/bench-sponsors if you or your club/organization would like to sponsor a bench. You can also visit that page just to share your desire to see more benches in Oakmont, and to suggest locations.
