If you had a medical emergency and were incapacitated, would those around you know your wishes for treatment – what you would want and, perhaps more importantly, what you would NOT want? Now is a good time to review your Advance Health Care Directives and think about whether a POLST (Physician Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment) is right for you. These important documents state your wishes for medical care and name the person who will make medical decisions for you if you are unable to speak for yourself.

Benjamin Franklin told us that nothing is certain except death and taxes. We all know that April 15 is Tax Day, but did you know that the following day, April 16, is National Healthcare Decisions Day? In recognition of this day, members of Sonoma County End of Life Doula Alliance will be available at Oakmont Gardens in the Fountain Courtyard (or Bistro, if raining) on Tuesday, April 16 between 10:00 and 12:00 with information, resources and sample templates for Advance Health Care Directives.
