INTERESTED IN LEARNING TO BOWL?
If you’ve thought about giving lawn bowling a try, email the club at oakmontlawnbowling@gmail.com or drop by. We bowl Monday through Saturday – mornings May through September and afternoons October through April. Lawn Bowling is not only fun and easy to learn, but also great exercise and a wonderful way to meet new friends.

SONOMA WINE COUNTRY GAMES (AKA SENIOR GAMES)
Of course, Santa Rosa had excessive heat warnings for our big event! But there was often a soft breeze and lots of water on hand. Jodi and Ande even brought several spray bottles filled with cold water so anyone could cool off quickly.

The games were June 10 and 11.

There were 6 teams. Four were from Oakmont. The other two teams were from Santa Clara and Utah. Some of the bowlers had left Santa Clara at 5:30 that morning while the Utah bowlers had made the trip into a week-long outing.

Bowlers played 3 10-end games each day. Every team bowled every other team in the first five rounds. For the final round, teams were paired up based on their standings.

Oakmont took FIRST and SECOND place. Jim K, Jeana and Denise took first place. Jerry G, Marilyn G and Jodi/Ande took second. The South Bowls team from Utah/Santa Clara took third.

The Tournament Committee (Steve and Pam) planned and oversaw the games, kept scores, stayed in touch with all the bowlers so there were no surprises, coordinated with the Council on Aging, and kept everything moving well.

The Social Committee (Pam, Linda P and Marilyn M) coordinated food and the picnic.

The Do-it-all Committee (Jim K) helped with all aspects of the tournament including getting the Green the best it can be, setting up the rinks, and bringing donuts.

And there were so many others who helped in any way they could. Like I said, we have an amazing group of volunteers.

THANK YOU!

MAKING THE GREEN GREEN
For our coming social events, we’re asking that people bring their own utensils.

And, though the Green is finally looking green, it’s still more from weeds than grass. Jim K is researching artificial turf. In an on-line poll, there was almost unanimous support for the change.
