President’s Message

As most of you know by now, effective at midnight on March 18, Sonoma County asked everyone in our county to shelter in place. The official county notice is here and you are encouraged to read it and the Frequently Asked Questions that comes along with it.

Oakmont Volunteer Helpers

Earlier this week all Sonoma County residents were ordered to shelter in place, to stay home as much as possible.  After careful consideration and with sadness, OVH has chosen suspend all our transportation services for the community, effective immediately and until further notice.    We understand this may cause a hardship for residents who have relied on OVH and I don’t know how to make this less difficult. The order also creates a dilemma for our drivers who, while genuinely wanting to be of service to their neighbors, need to stay home as well.  We suggest you contact family members, private transportation providers or taxi companies to arrange for you transportation needs.

May we all be safe during this challenging time.

Solar Energy Policy

The Board approved the new Solar Energy Policy at the March 17 meeting.
Please click here to see that policy.

No New Donations To Library

Please postpone the delivery of any donations to the library while our facilities are closed. Volunteers will be unable to collect the donations and they may become damaged and unusable while outside of the facility.

Shelter/Lock Down Resources

Although the Shelter in Place and Lock-Down orders have resulted in many event cancellations and obstacles to obtaining our basic needs, there are many wonderful resources available nearby. We have compiled a list including food obtaining resources and activities that may help break the inevitable monotony of our current conditions:

Inside Oakmont

AARP Free Income Tax Service in Oakmont Has Been Suspended

The Tax-Aide program operated by AARP in partnership with the IRS that has been operating here at the Berger Center has been closed down pursuant to a nation-wide order by AARP to reduce the risk of coronavirus exposure to the volunteers and taxpayers. The team of volunteers that has been hard at work providing free income tax service for seniors and low-income families for several years is now on stand-by awaiting an end to the shut-down order and the opening of the Berger Center.

Taxpayers with appointments were contacted and informed that the closure will be ‘until further notice’ from AARP. When the service is restarted, volunteers will call and get new appointments set up.

There are indications that the April 15 tax filing deadline will likely be extended for several months, so taxpayers just need to be patient while the coronavirus pandemic runs it course and the service gets up and running again.

Taxpayers can then drop by the Berger Center to make an appointment and get the IRS-required interview form in preparation for their appointment with a tax counselor. If you have any questions about the AARP tax service, please call the team leader, Frank Tindal, at 707-537-6927.

Mickey Gilley and Johnny Lee Canceled

I am sorry to say due to the virus  and the safety of all guests I have cancelled the Mickey Gilley Show on March 24, 2020.

However I talked to Mickey and he really wants to do the show for us so he is looking at dates between August and December and he will let me know what those dates are and we will set a date.

That being said we will pick a date and let you know what that is.

I will refund your money or you and your party can stay on the list so you will have your seats already for the next show. In some cases if you stay on the list you would have better seats then you have now. Your seats will be refundable at all times up until 10 days before the new date of the show.

Please let me know all names in your party and how they would want to proceed by calling me at 707-539-6666 or e-mail me at haversonr@comcast.net.
I am so sorry I have had to take this action but I would rather see our community as safe as possible. then take any Unnecessary chances.

“Blame Sally brings you everything from stompboxes to fiddles, as they weave their magic in a tapestry of musical delight. And don’t for a minute think of them as a folk band as they add a little bit of rock, and a whole lotta heart into each and every performance, blending the different genres into a melodic work of art.”

“Their live performances are more than just a musical journey, as they banter back and forth with each other in between songs as only true friends can do, making for a very entertaining evening.”
