Genealogy Club

June 19 – 11 a.m. –  Lucy Stone

The Oakmont Genealogy Club is continuing a weekly lecture series on famous women of the 19th Century with a particular focus on suffragettes.  The lectures are each Friday at 11 a.m.  They are recorded and posted on the website – www.oakmontgenclub.org – under “Recent Presentations.”

The lecture for June 19 will focus on Lucy Stone, the first woman to receive a college degree in the United States – a noted orator. Among her other actions was her refusal to change her name when she married resulting in the term in the 19th century that a woman who wouldn’t change her name was “Stoned.”
