OTC Dues are Due, First 2019 Event, USTA Team Formation Starts Now

OTC Dues are Due: “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.” While Ben Franklin might not have played tennis, I’m sure he’d suggest getting those membership dues in to the Tennis Club. The deadline for the printed roster is February 28, but why not get it done now. Complete the coupon from the website or at the OVA and place it in the OVA Office Tennis Club folder ASAP. For more information, contact Joan Kline, 650-279-2750, joaniebones@gmail.com.

First 2019 Event – Something New – A BEER AND FOOD TASTING: On February 15 at 5:30 p.m. in the Berger we will hold the first 2019 social event. The event is open to all Oakmont residents. Palooza Brewery and Gastropub will cater three tastings of their food and beer; two hearty sliders plus their famous mac & cheese served with three popular Palooza brews. Palooza’s brewmaster will describe the microbrewing process and answer questions from the floor. The OTC will provide dessert, AND there will be Prize Drawings throughout the evening! Wine drinkers are welcome to bring their own. Sign up by completing the coupon below and placing it in the Tennis Club folder in the OVA office by February 5. Have more fun by reserving a table for 8; just submit all names and fees together on one coupon.

USTA Team Formation Starts Now: The U.S. Tennis Association holds a variety of league competitions throughout the year. Oakmont Tennis Club members often form teams to participate. You don’t need to be a member of OTC to be included, but you do need to join USTA at $28 per person. There are leagues for men’s, women’s and mixed doubles play. If you are interested in being on a team or fielding a team as the captain, contact Tony Agocs or Terri Somers. Tony is hoping to field a men’s doubles team, aged 65 and older for the spring, and a 70 years and older team for the fall. Players should be rated in the range of 3.0, 3.5 or 4.0. While Terri isn’t planning on fielding a team, she has vast experience organizing USTA teams and is more than willing to support anyone wishing to field a team. It is her opinion that we have more than enough women who could compete at the 2.5 and 3.0 levels. For more information contact Tony Agocs, tonyagocs@gmail.com, or Terri Somers, only1tls@att.net.
