June 2021 may be quarantine free. How great that message. To greet that good news, how ‘bout a scoop of Rocky Road ice cream? National Rocky Road Ice Cream Day happens every June 12. This is the year to indulge.

The blend of chocolate ice cream, nuts and marshmallows was created almost 100 years ago and marketed as something happy during the Great Depression. As it was in 1929 so it is in 2021. Have some Rocky Road ice cream….and smile.

Exercise burns the calories you’ll enjoy on this national recognition day. In an article published by Mayo Clinic, a “160 pound person doing moderate aerobics will burn through 365 calories in one hour.” (Two scoops!) Staff writers define moderate aerobic exercise as “activities such as brisk walking, swimming and mowing the lawn. Vigorous aerobic exercise includes activities such as running and aerobic dancing. Strength training includes use of weight machines, your own body weight, resistance tubing or activities such as rock climbing.”

Except for rock climbing, JoRene incorporates it all. A total body make-over, right here in Oakmont.

Exerciser Linda says that exercise “is a habit for me now, so I don’t really have to motivate myself. On the occasion when I’m a bit tired, I make myself go to the class, and within five minutes when the endorphins start kicking in, I’m a happy (and sweaty!) camper.” Because aerobics, yoga and regular walks around Oakmont are built-ins for Linda, she can skip any guilt when she indulges in an occasional scoop (or two) of Rocky Road ice cream.

Word to the wise: For your safety, good balance and lateral movement are needed for quick aerobic moves. A fall may cause serious injury. Check with your doctor before beginning any exercise regimen. All Free Fitness Classes are too large to accommodate those who need special supervision. If you have shoulder, back, knee problems, anything that is painful, it is advisable to join a smaller, well-supervised class first, and consult a personal trainer or medical professional to learn modifications that are suitable to your condition. Participants need to use their judgment and body awareness… altering each exercise to prevent injury.  Be careful dear ones. Welcome!
