OAKMONT, CA – Organizers of a new Soroptimist Club announced they will hold an informational meeting on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 273 Belgreen Place, Oakmont, open to women who are looking for opportunities to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. The Club will include members from Oakmont, Kenwood, Glen Ellen and surrounding areas.

In addition, we now have commitments from a group of wonderful women so we hereby announce that the Club is formed, the officers have been selected, and our Charter Party is calendared to Sunday, February 2, 2020, 5 PM, at the East Recreation Center on Oakmont Dr, details to follow in the next announcement. SAVE THE DATE!! The Club will be Chartered, the officers will be Installed, and the new members will be Inducted by our Founder Region Governor, Sylvia.

The Club will be part of Soroptimist International of the Americas, a global service organization for women with members in 212 countries and territories. Soroptimists volunteer their talents and energy to help women and girls live their dreams every day by giving them the resources to create positive change–for themselves, their families and their communities.

The Soroptimist mission is exemplified by its major project, the Soroptimist Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women. Each year Soroptimists give about $2 million to women who want to improve their job skills through education and training. Most are single moms, and many are domestic violence survivors.

The Club is being organized by Phyllis Rogers, a long-time member of Soroptimist International of Santa Rosa who said members of the new club will carry out Soroptimist’s Dream Programs, including the Live Your Dream Award in the local area.

“This Club will offer opportunities to participate in programs that change lives, as well as to develop lifelong friendships and a network of global connections”, said Phyllis Rogers. “The name, Soroptimist, means ‘Best for Women’, and that’s what our club will strive to achieve.”

If you want to attend the Informational Meeting on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 6:00pm, contact Phyllis Rogers at 707-477-6771. Please bring a dish to share.
