Sparkling Bubbles at Tasting Events Club on December 16th

Want to taste and compare a $110 per glass, 19-year-old exclusive Champagne with $20 to $50 Sparkling wines from around the world and Champagnes? You can at the next Tasting Events Club Event on Dec. 16th at 6pm at our Oakmont’s East Rec Center.

The theme of the pre-holiday tasting event is “Bubbles and Sparkling Wines”. It will feature six bubbles, in three categories: (1) USA Value (at ~$25/bottle) featuring: Roederer Estate from Anderson Valley and Gruet from New Mexico; (2) International Value (at ~$35/bottle) featuring: Baron-Fuenté from Champagne and Antech from Limoux. And finally (3) Exclusive Champagnes (from $50 – $150 per bottle): Bollinger “Special Cuvée” and a 2002 Billecart-Salmon “Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart”. The latter is served at Per Se in Manhattan (Napa’s French Laundry affiliate) at $110 per glass! Our tasting will be more sensibly priced at just $40 per person.

As always, our tastings will be ‘blind’ enabling you to compare six different ‘bubbles’ based just on individual taste buds, not price or region! We will pair these fine wines with canapés made from smoked salmon, brie cheese as well as spanakopita.

We will intersperse the tasting, with brief overviews of different ways of making sparkling wine and understanding the role of terroir in different regions that affect sparkling wines. And again, as always, the event will have some fun wine knowledge-based trivia contests that will provoke interaction and friendly competition …and winners!
