The Authors Book Faire held at the Berger Center July 9th was very successful. The concept was developed by Nadine Condon, an author herself, and the event was sponsored by the Oakmont Soroptimist Club. There were 21 Sonoma County authors represented, several of them Oakmont residents. Attendees were able to meet the authors, and have their books signed. The Soroptimist club was present to educate interested people about the club and its core goal of providing women and girls access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment. The club also provided water and candy and held a raffle for an international themed picnic basket. Sweet and savory snacks from around the world and local Sonoma County wine. Proceeds from the raffle will go to the Live Your Dream scholarship fund.
Over 125 people attended the free event and it was great to see many of them leave with books. The genres included fiction, non-fiction, historical, memoirs, thrillers and poetry. Book clubs were able to connect in person with authors and invite them to future meetings.
The Soroptimist club was represented by one of our members Cynthia Goodwin, who had two books for sale. Also present was Elizabeth Quiroz, founder of Redemption House with her recently released memoir. The Oakmont Soroptimists have committed to supporting Redemption House as part of the club’s community outreach.
