The coffee pot will be set up in the morning, and while everyone won’t get a trophy, all competitors will win lunch on the patio. Spring Membership Meeting a Success
The March 16 membership meeting had something for everyone. With a quorum present, the board completed their agenda, while members munched on Chinese food.
OTC has a full calendar of fun for members. Fred Merrill, in charge of Social Events, detailed the major events. Terri Somers will organize the summer event for Saturday, July 20th, so hold that date; she always plans a great party. The fall membership meeting and dinner is scheduled for Oct. 11th. The combined Awards Dinner and End of the Year party is planned for mid-November. Tennis Events coordinator Edilberto Loaiza, called attention to the active calendar with tournaments scheduled for May, July, September, October, and November. He advised members that only two of the events are gender specific, and yet there is a noticeable disparity in the numbers of men and women signing up for tournaments. Thus, a call is being made to the ladies to step up participation in the tourneys. Mixed groups make for more fun.
Dave Coar’s Treasurer’s report confirmed that the club is in good shape, with funds for all activities, as well as a reserve. Membership Chair, Joan Kline, handed out the new rosters at the beginning of the meeting, reported on the active member numbers, and advised of the clubs intent to have a table at the new OVA residents’ club fair. If you were unable to attend the meeting and still need to pick up your roster, contact Joan by phone (650-279-2750) or email (email@example.com).
President, Jon Kline, discussed safety issues for times when using the courts. If you need to call 911, telephone landlines can be found upstairs on the West Rec wall facing the courts and in the covered area near the West pool. First aid kits are in the upstairs kitchen, at the pool, and soon in the West “kiosk” bathroom.
. First aid kits are also available in the kitchen and the bathroom kiosk at West. East Rec locations will be identified when construction is completed. Using your cell phone, you can directly dial the police (707-528-5222) or the fire department and ambulance (707-528-5151). Save those numbers in your cell phone contacts to assure access.
After the meeting, featured speaker Helle Sparre provided a lively discussion of strategies for doubles tennis. She posed and answered a variety of questions from the players. Now, we just need to put them into practice
