Whose House is It?

Terri Somers and Maureen Pennal shared top place for women.

Last year, the McCoys, led by Arne Herskovic, pulled off the victory, so we know the Hatfields will be even more determined to establish their superiority. Will Arne come back to lead his clan in another rout? Find out in this year’s traditional Hatfields vs. McCoys tennis shootout on Saturday, May 4th, 9:00 a.m. on the West Courts. Play is open to men and women of all levels and we’d love to see some old timey outfits. Morning coffee and a BYOB ‘peace picnic’ afterward are just part of the attraction. Even more important is the fun you will have as the two teams continue the rivalry. If you like good-natured competition, be sure to sign up by May 1st on the OTC website, or get in touch with Edilberto Loaiza at 914-907-7192 or edilberto1@gmail.com.

Getting to Know You Tennis Event a Success

The West Tennis Court patio was the place to be on the afternoon of Sunday, April 14. Although bad weather forced Tennis Events Chair, Edilberto Loaiza, to use a rain date, the Getting to Know You Event afforded new and old members an opportunity to meet and play in a relaxed, social setting. The weather held beautifully, and all four courts on West were filled as players competed in short sets, changing partners after each match. We were fortunate to have equal numbers of men and women participating, so teams were always nicely balanced. To make it even better, we had a good number of spectators, including club members and significant others, to cheer on the players.

Brian Williams came out as the top player for the men, and Maureen Pennal and Terri Somers tied for highest scoring female player. Winners were awarded lovely bottles of adult beverages donated by OTC members Rey Frimmersdorf and Ron Charlton.

An event like this takes a serious amount of effort, so a special shout out to Fred Merill, Social Events Chair, for his efforts buying the food and setting up the barbecue grills. Fred and Doug Smith manned the grills, offering classic barbecue fare of burgers and dogs cooked to perfection, salads, and chips for the hungry players and spectators. In typical fashion the membership really answered the call, so there were too many desserts to count. Many thanks to all of our great members who brought food and helped with set up and clean up. This community spirit makes for a great club!
