Hatfields Come out Firing
Well, the Hatfields must have been pretty ‘het’ up after last year’s defeat by the McCoys. Led by Clan Chief George Hasa, they reclaimed their prowess (wins in 2016 and 2017) as the feistiest clan in the OTC by winning the annual contest resoundingly. A dozen players turned out, of whom four were women, so each clan was made up of two mixed doubles and one men’s doubles teams. Although the Hatfields swept the matches, the McCoys put up a good fight providing for a lot of really fun, competitive tennis. Play followed the Fast 4 format, in which shorter sets are played with no ad scoring so that each team completed three matches in round robin play.
Luckily, it was a beautiful day, so we celebrated the cessation of battle with a shared lunch on the West Court patio. Urban Pizza brought three types of delicious hot pizza, accompanied by a green salad and a special fresh fruit salad with strawberries from our local Kenwood Strawberry Patch prepared by club president Jon Kline. Yummy cupcakes took care of dessert for those whose sweet tooth was asking for more. Spectators and players alike claimed the morning a success.

Second, we will have our big summer social event at the Berger Center on Saturday, July 20. More information will become available as the dates near, but for now keep that date blocked on your calendar for an evening of fun.
New Nets for Courts 1 and 2
Many thanks go out to Tony Agocs, Ron Charlton, Neil Linneball and Edilberto Loaiza for replacing the damaged nets on courts one and two of the West Rec. Many had noticed that the nets had separated from the tape at the bottom. While this didn’t necessarily hamper play, it was potentially dangerous to a player rushing the net who might get a foot tangled. The removed nets will be repaired and stored for use in the future.
