How is this for a problem? The Board of the Tennis Club is so flush with funds (a very modest amount) that it needs to figure out how to spend some of it.
That is one of the interesting points to come out of the Board’s annual meeting on November 13 at the Berger Center. attended by about 30 members.
A vigorous discussion has been going on post-meeting about how to dole out the “excess” In funds. Stay tuned.
In other business:
The old Board (Jim Hughson, Judy Passaglia, Frank Passaglia, Arnie Herskovic, Maureen Pennal and Dave Coar) was voted in for another year. Mellie Gott announced that she is moving and will be leaving the Board although not the Tennis Club. A hats off thanks to Mellie who has been a busy Communications Director.
Dues for membership in the Tennis Club, which has grown to about 90 members, will remain at $20 per year. (New members can join the club by going to the OVA office and asking for a sign up form from the Tennis Club folder).
Marueen ran down the list of three events the club sponsored this year (one was canceled due to rain) and Frank suggested that this be bumped up to six or eight events in 2024
Other items: new gamma balls have been purchased for the ball machine in the club’s shed on the West Courts; discussion about the possibility of a portable backboard on Court 4 in the West; replace medical supplies in the first-aid boxes in sheds at both East and West.
More details were announced for the Gala Evening of Dining and Dancing on January 19 at the Saddle Club, which is opening inside and outside rooms for the event. Music will be by the Second Street band.
Frank and Judy, who are involved in the arrangements for the evening, gave the menu rundown:
Appetizers, salmon or New York steak or both, Caesar salad, seasonal vegetables, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese. There also will be a veggie option. The food will be buffet style.
There will also be a great liquid “menu.” No corkage fee for bringing your own bottle and drinks at the No Host Bar will be only $5 each. A real deal, thanks to Frank’s negotiating skills.
