The Voting Rights Lab is leading the effort to protect voting. Maya Ingram, Regional Director, will present what we need to know and how we can help at the 7PM May 27th Oakmont Democratic Club Zoom meeting. All are welcome.
The Voting Rights Lab is a nonpartisan organization that brings state advocacy, policy, and legislative expertise to the fight for voting rights. They work in partnership with organizations across the country to build winning campaigns that secure, protect, and defend the freedom to vote for all Americans.
They have three key areas of policy focus:
1. Fighting deliberate barriers to voting, including automatic voter purges, cuts to early voting, and reduced polling hours;
2. Expanding participation in our democracy through early voting, accessible vote by mail, and other critical reforms;
3. Establishing fair elections by restoring the voting rights of formerly incarcerated citizens. Director
Their State Voting Rights Tracker is a first-of-its-kind dashboard that tracks all pending legislation in all 50 states in real time; monitors and analyzes all legislative activity throughout the state legislative season; and offers a comprehensive snapshot of all existing voting laws and regulations.
During the past year, many Oakmonters helped protect the right of American citizens to vote. Volunteers have texted or wrote postcards to citizens in battleground states. One effort made sure that if citizens had been wrongly purged from voting lists that they knew what they needed to do to still vote. Another campaign, in states that were changing voting rules, made sure voters knew the law and how to properly vote. Moving forward, we can help our democracy by supporting campaigns to secure and protect voting. Learn how you can help. Join us at 7PM on May 27 to learn more.
