Getting ready for our Labor Day Fun Game

TOURNAMENTS GALORE!
By Mary Blake

INTERESTED IN LEARNING TO BOWL?
We’re always excited to have new bowlers. We bowl 6 days a week (Monday through Saturday), mornings during warmer weather and afternoons during colder weather. If you’re curious, drop by and just ask about the game. Lessons are free for all Oakmont residents.

WOMEN’S SINGLES TOURNAMENT
Jeana and Denise faced each other in the final round of the Women’s Singles Tournament, with Jeana winning that round to be named the best female lawn bowler in Oakmont.

LABOR DAY HOLIDAY GAME
We had TWENTY-FOUR (24) bowlers in our Labor Day Holiday Game. That made for 8 teams, 4 games. The winners were:
Tied for first place: Francis (with Linda P and Cynthia) tied with Greg (with Pam and Ted)
Second place: Topher (with James and Paul)
Third place: Jeana (with James and Richard)

MEN’S TRIPLES SO FAR
In the first round, Tom’s team defeated Jim Krause’s and Francis’ team defeated Topher’s. As I type this, the results of the final round remain a mystery.

MEN’S PAIRS SO FAR
It’s to be expected. We’re ACTIVE seniors, so sometimes it’s difficult to find a date that works for everyone. Throw in an injury here and there and it could take a long time to finish a tournament. Mark and Jerry are both sidelined pending surgery. Fortunately, some of our men are also creative thinkers and, to make this happen some time this year, there’s been some rearranging. To finish this tournament, Phil and Rob will play against Jim K and Paul.

OUR NEXT SOCIAL
When you read this, our September After 5 Potluck will have already happened!
The next social will be our Halloween Tournament and Dinner on Friday, October 29, at 3 pm. We’ll have one 14-end game followed by dinner.

NEW BOWLERS
If you’ve been bowling for a while, be kind to our new bowlers. We hit them with A LOT of information over a short period of time. With practice, they’ll get all the details down but for now, we all need to remember what it’s like to take on a new activity.

OLBC CLOTHING
Jeana has shirts and hats for sale. Shirts are men’s and women’s, white with club logo, for $23. Sizes range from SM to XXL. Hats are unisex, white with club logo, for $15. Information is in the bowls room. Contact Jim K or Jeana to order or if you have questions.
