2021 Men Lined up for the Men's Singles Tournament

ONE NAIL BITER AFTER ANOTHER
By Mary Blake

We’ve been busy over the last month.

AUGUST 10 – MEN’S SINGLES
This was an exciting tournament. In the first round, Jim Krause faced Richard Goodwin. Richard is one of our newest bowlers, but you’d never guess that watching him bowl. It was close for the entire match, with Jim just eking out a win. Then Jim faced Steve Pickell. The lead changed 5 times; it was tied the 20th. Jim won the tie-breaker by 2 points. Then, Jim faced Tom Ternullo. Again, he fought – and fought. Tom was leading by 7 points in the 11th. Jim clawed his way back, tying the game in the 16th, and again in the 20th (yes, déjà vu all over again), and won the match by 1 point in the 21st end.

AUGUST 2 – OPEN TRIPLES
We had 6 teams. First round winners were Jim Krause’s, Ande Anderson’s, and Tom Ternullo’s teams. Tom’s team had the bye. Ande’s team faced and defeated Jim’s team to go into the final where Tom’s team held on to defeat Ande’s.

JULY 26 – DEMO DAY
We had a very successful Demo Day, with 27 people interested in bowling. We’re now training and certifying new players, so you’ll be seeing new many new faces.
Let Tony Lachowicz know if you can help train!

JULY 13 – MEN’S PAIRS
We’re still waiting for the final match when Phil and Jerry will face Jim and Paul. Winner TBD.

JULY 20 – OUR FIRST SOCIAL SINCE 2019
Thanks to Jeana and her brilliant crew, our first social was a great event. Great food and wonderful people. It was a beautiful evening, and a good turn-out.

JULY 21 – WOMEN’S TRIPLES
We had 12 women, 4 teams, 2 matches. In the final round, Marilyn Garland’s team defeated Jeannette Breglio’s.

JULY 29 – GRANDPARENTS’ DAY – LAWN BOWLING ISN’T JUST FOR SENIORS
This was our first experience with having children on the Green but it won’t be our last.
And it all worked! Linda Pickell made sure we had prizes for each event. The children had a great time – and maybe the club will have some new members (in about 45 years). Thanks to Bob Stephens and Marilyn Garland for making this happen.

9/11 Memories and Exercise

Today we remember the day that shocked and shook the world with a painful look back. This is also a time to look ahead at how to mitigate lingering negative responses. Living in constant concern, anxiety and fear robs the good from each day. Deep breathing and reading comics may be ways to cope. Talking to a positive person might be another. And still a third: exercise.
