Town Hall with Councilman Jack Tibbetts: Get Smart about the Ballot
- By Nadine Condon
Join us at an Oakmont Town Hall, featuring our City Councilman Jack Tibbetts, on Thursday, October 4th from 6:00-7:30 pm to discuss the multiple local Measures and state-wide Propositions on the upcoming ballot.
Issues like housing, homelessness, infra-structure, fire safety and parks affect all of us. With numerous state and local bond and tax issues that seem to address the same concerns, it can seem difficult to distinguish among them.
Councilman Tibbetts has the knowledge and experience to dissect the ballot and explain the pros and cons. He can speak knowledgeably on why “Yes on Measure N”(the housing bond) is in Oakmont’s best interest and how our Santa Rosa representatives are trying to deal constructively with the fall-out from last year’s fires, while securing the city’s future. Jack has been to Sacramento and Congress in Washington D.C., lobbying on our behalf. Let’s hear what he has to say!
This event is casual and will feature plenty of desserts and refreshments and will have town hall seating. Bring your friends, bring you concerns, and decide for yourself how to make Santa Rosa the best place to live for ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren.
Harder Red to Blue a Win with New Efforts Underway!
Oakmont residents and their guests responded in a big way to a visit from Congressional Candidate Josh Harder. Over 250 supporters attended the September 7th Event. Harder is locked in a tight race with Republican Jeff Denham of Modesto. This contest could decide which party controls Congress. Harder spoke of his commitment to fight for health care and for our environment. State Senator Mike McGuire literally leaped from the stage to challenge Oakmonters to contribute and folks responded contributing over $16,000 to Harder’s Campaign!
Sandra Pessner led a team of Oakmont cooks that prepared some wonderful hors d’oeuvres.
The three clubs that co-sponsored the event, the Oakmont Democratic Club, the PerSisters, and the Oakmont Progressives, plan to keep working on various activities to flip Trump’s Congress between now and election day. Texting, post card writing, and phone banking are among the work done locally. Additionally, teams will be making TRIPS TO TRACY in the nearby Central Valley starting October 6th to help register and turnout voters.
