In January, we discussed alternatives to hotels. Some of the alternatives we discussed were AirBNB, VRBO (Vacation Rental by Owner), WHY hotels – temporary pop up hotels in the Washington DC area – The Guild (Austin, Denver, Miami, Dallas, and Cincinnati) Hotels for long stay One Fine Stay – apartments for rent Home rental type accommodations by Marriott, Hyatt, and Accor hotels Peggy Dombeck discussed SERVAS. This is a very interesting concept that you can learn more about by looking at www.servas.org Their theme is: Peace and Understanding through Travel and Hosting. She had been involved in this organization for quite some time and told us the many places she has stayed. She has also hosted guests here in Oakmont. These are not designed to be ‘long’ stays but short stays with big impact to the host and the guests. Judith Quayle talked about Intervac.com which is a house swapping concept similar to Home Exchange.com. Judith explained that usually these swaps do involve longer stays and may include cars. The websites have more information. Next month (Feb 4) we will have Norwegian Cruise lines as our guest. They will have two ships in Alaska this summer – the Joy and the Bliss, so if you are thinking about doing a multi-generational cruise, you won’t want to miss this meeting. I will also have information on the Nov 2019, Travel and Adventure Club trip to Morocco to hand out. Our meeting will be Monday, Feb. 4 at 530pm at the West Rec Center. Please come by to learn more about Norwegian Cruise Lines. If you are interested in travel and want to hear what various travel companies have to offer, drop by our meetings. Presentations and club membership are free and there is no high-pressure selling.
