Valley of the Moon Children’s Home speaker

Meg Easter-Dawson of the Vallyu of the Moon Children’s Home was the guest speaker at the Thursday, March 24Th breakfast meeting. For readers who are new to Oakmont, the home is close by and accepts children who are in emergency situations and in need of care. The home has a highly skilled staff to support the children until a suitable home placement is found for them. The children have often been exposed to traumatic conditions and have many needs. The state of California has mandated that any group home can only keep children for a limited time until they can be placed in a family home. Unfortunately, many of the children are still in need of the therapies they receive at the Valley Of The Moon Children’s Home. The home is looking forward to establishing a treatment Center as part of the home. Children in need of continued therapy will be allowed, by the state, to stay for up to 6 months. Clinicians will work with the staff and the future home parents to assist the child’s transition to a new living situations. The child will be able to return to VOM for more therapy if needed. In the near future VOM will be transitioning to two units=one the emergency unit and the new Treatment Center unit. The Kiwanis Club members happily presented Meg Easter-Dawson a large check to aid the home in their excellent work with children. For the children we had a very large box of colorful flip-flops, sidewalk chalk and art supplies. The Kiwanis Club always presents two children’s library books, in the name of the speaker, to the Luther Burbank School library. The club invites you to join us in our fun but needed services. Contact President Fran Lazzarini by email at franlazz43@aol.com or phone 928-202-1105.
