Annual Celebration of the Opening of the Courts

The first annual celebration of the establishment of permanent pickleball courts was held on 6/10/19 at courtside. The event was well attended with approximately 100 attendees. The program was started with a touching memorial for Al Medeiros by Iris Haskell, followed by a remarkable violin solo performed by, 15 year old, Theo Mac Kinnon (National Pickleball Gold Champion, 4.0 level, 19+, men’s doubles ).

The event was well organized by the Social and Scholarship committees headed by Maggie Schmidt, Victoria Dettmann, Janet Felker, Connie Medeiros, Vicki Owens, Linda Schilling and Ellie Frank who provided pastries and coffee. The next activity was a demonstration play by the Mac Kinnon family (Adam, Theo, and Willsy) and Tom Kendrick. They put on a very exhilerating demonstration of high level skills. The event was concluded with a “pay to play” fundraiser with the proceeds going to the scholarship fund (see attached picture). The fun and comradery was so evident. Ahhh!! Life is good at Oakmont!
