Wine Pairing Dinners At The Oakmont Golf Club
- Rick Warfel
The first wine pairing dinner was held Wednesday, August 29 at the Quail Inn. The event featured six wines from Murphy Goode, a local Jackson Family Wines-owned facility that, according to GM / sommelier Greg Anderson, “offers the best $25 bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon (2014 vintage) in the Alexander Valley.” The event was promoted via an e-blast to the full club database (not just members), and a full-page ad in the Oakmont News. With a price of $55, the 80 available seats sold-out in just 36 hours. The menu featured salmon, filet mignon, summer vegetables, a variety of appetizers, and olive oil cake with peach compote and mascarpone cream for dessert. The event was a huge success and the Oakmont Golf Club culinary team — Rich, Lesley and Maria, received a standing ovation. Greg Anderson remarked, “The wines were perfectly paired with the food.”
The second wine pairing dinner is planned for September 19 at the Quail Inn and will feature the wines of Hartford Family Wines. Hartford Family is a high-end, boutique, artisan winery located on the Russian River and their wines regularly score 90 points or above according to noted expert Robert Parker. With more expensive wines than offered at the first wine pairing dinner, event pricing is $77.50 for OGC members and $87.50 for non-members, or about $100 per person including tax and tip. The event was promoted via an e-blast to the club database and the Oakmont community, and ads in the Oakmont News, Facebook and Nextdoor. Like the first wine pairing dinner, tickets sold quickly, the 80 available seats sold out in 48 hours. The distribution of diners is about 60% OGC members, 30% Oakmont community, and 10% from outside the community. Winery owners Don and Jennifer Hartford will be on hand to present their wines and mingle with the guests. The menu is planned to include many appetizers, halibut, pork belly bites, specialty vegetables, loin of lamb, and dessert paired with five wines.
The third wine pairing dinner is planned for Wednesday November 7, winery to be announced. It is likely that this event will also sell-out very quickly.
