A large crowd filled the Berger auditorium for a presentation on design concepts for the OVA Central Complex. On March 5, 2024, Christel Antone, OVA general manager, and Mitch Conner of Archilogix conducted a workshop on organizing User Groups of Oakmont residents for the first phase of developing concept designs as approved by the board in the December 2023 board meeting.
Antone emphasized that User Groups play a vital role in translating ideas for the Central Complex into concepts tailored to meet the needs of the community. Each User Group is to be made up of people who use facilities, or who would like to use these areas, to best understand the most effective uses for these areas. User Groups will also conduct fact-finding to examine the functionality, usability and connectivity of Oakmont’s indoor and outdoor spaces as described by users of the space.
The User Groups will explore the following areas of activities in the Central Complex.
- Fitness User Group
- Indoor Gatherings User Group
- Education and Arts User Group
- Outdoor Gatherings User Group
- Walk Audit Group
- Admin User Group (OVA staff)
During the workshop, group leaders and team members learned about next steps, responsibilities and time requirements for the process. Each group will meet multiple times over the next few weeks to discuss and record essential information about their area. This information will provide Archilogix with data to develop three conceptual designs that will then be presented to the community for review and discussion.
Once the User Group phase is complete, Archilogix will begin working on the three design concepts. A report of the design progress is expected by mid-May.
Prior to the report, Antone said she will keep the community apprised of the progress. The CAC lobby will be a staging area for concepts to be viewed by members.
