Members oversee Oakmont residents in the planning, preparation, response, and recovery from emergencies and disasters that may affect our Community. The OEPC also manages the efforts of the Oakmont Emergency Response Team (ERT), a group of over 300 resident volunteers and COPE (Citizens Organized to Prepare for Emergencies).
The purpose of COPE is to build and prepare neighborhoods and prepare neighborhood teams for responding to major emergency situations. Equally beneficial, neighbors provide individual support to each other when needed.
Developed in 2009 and promoted by the State of Washington’s Emergency Management organization, MYN provides a framework for organizing neighborhoods to prepare for, respond to, and recover from an emergency or disaster. It received an award from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and has been adopted by communities in more than 40 states.
