ESTF: What to Do with Signs After Election

Signs of Sustainability:  A Reuse and Recycle Election Sign Project
By Environmental Stewardship Task Force

While political signs are generally collected by campaign volunteers after the polls close, sometimes they are missed and forgotten after Election Day.

If that’s the case, one sustainable way to handle election signs is to reuse them in a creative way. The metal stakes can be repurposed as plant supports in your garden. The signs themselves can be given a second life by covering them with new designs to promote future events.

However, if you prefer to dispose of your signs, you may drop them off in the marked collection boxes located outside the Berger kitchen doors, between the Berger and OVA offices.

There are labelled boxes for Dianna McDonald’s signs (including the stakes).

There is also a box for all other metal stakes, which Recology will pick up and reuse.

You may drop off these items anytime between now and Friday, Nov. 15.

During this timeframe our team of volunteers will also collect Dianna’s signs from Oakmont residents and bring them to the Berger.

Note that as election signs are made of laminated paper and plastic, they should be placed in your gray trash cart.

The metal stakes go in your blue recycling cart.

Remember, the OVA’s sign policy states that all political signs must be removed by Nov. 12, 7 days after the election.

Oakmont’s Environmental Stewardship Task Force and friends thank you for your support and for helping us promote earth-friendlier actions in Oakmont.
